History

History

Balmar was founded and grew based on our commitment to the needs of our customers. Here are some of our top milestones:

1966 - Balmar is founded in Arlington as the area’s first round-the-clock printer. We begin with five employees.
1974 - Balmar opens a new facility in Gaithersburg, Maryland.
1980 - Due to needs of customers, Balmar builds a new plant in Maryland.
1987 - The Maryland location expands color printing services.
1989 - Our award-winning design studio opens.
1990 - Balmar enters the digital age with the addition of high-speed DocuTech printers.
1991 - Arlington adds the five-color Heidelberg printer to expand multicolor printing capability.
1992 - Balmar adds computerized electronic prepress systems.
1994 - Balmar opens the Fulfillment Center in Maryland and is chosen as a beta-test site for the testing and development of the next-generation DocuTech coating tower installed in the Falls Church plant.
2001 - Balmar launches eBIZManagement, an online ordering system for print collateral.
2003 - Balmar becomes the second printer in the U.S. to become Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified.
2004 - Computer-to-Plate (CTP) technology and fully automated pre-press workflows are implemented in our locations. 
2005 - The Maryland facility expands color digital printing with the addition of Kodak NexPress and DI presses.
2006 - The Indigo HP Digital press is installed in Virginia.
2008 - Balmar introduces cross media marketing.
2010 - Balmar launches a full-scale digital center featuring the iGen4.
2010 - Balmar becomes wholly owned subsidiary of HBP, Inc.
